Job Description

3D Print Specialist

Our client in Troy, MI is seeking a 3D Print Specialist. This is a contract position.

The 3D Print Specialist will work with project management, both within Design and other functions to understand requirements, including timing and also create schedules to meet stakeholder requirements and milestones, maximizing efficiency of in-house printers.

What you get to do:

  • Prepare and manage 3D printing of parts, including data preparation
  • Operate machines, including removal of support material from prints and loading of material
  • Carry-out minor secondary operations such as bonding and threaded inserts
  • Prepare packages for quotation, for any outsource requirements
  • Co-ordinate logistics for outsourcing of secondary operations
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of key materials, including procurement and vendor liaison
  • Lead the maintenance and repair of equipment, including scheduled services, preventative maintenance and critical spares
  • Work in a creative space while working in unison with others independently and together
  • Use independent judgement with only general supervision
  • Put dimensional information on model for checking or duplication
  • Coordinates input from internal and external customer to better understand needs and or perceptions
  • Work with the team, providing inputs into work and timing plans
  • Help coordinate logistics and material requirements for projects
  • Take pride, with great attention to detail in the quality of models produced

What you bring to the team:

  • Minimum of 5-8 years workshop experience in a professional product development environment
  • College level education in transportation design or fine arts a plus
  • Ability to create schedules and material lists in Excel
  • Ability to create detailed timing plans
  • Ability to modify 3D data
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills a must
  • Ability to read line drawings, perform basic math calculations, operate shop machinery
  • Excellent spatial perception, hand/eye coordination and dexterity
  • Ability to stand for long durations of time in addition to stooping, bending and reaching regularly and lifting up to 30lbs
  • Flexible approach to meet challenging timing plans
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (within the US), to support activities at other locations
