divh2Assistant Football Coach And Strength Conditioning Coach/h2pThe joint CMS Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Program is comprised of student-athletes from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges and offers a comprehensive program of regular physical education, intramural, recreational, club and varsity sports. CMS varsity teams compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), as a member of NCAA Division III. The Program is comprised of 21 varsity sports (10 mens, 11 womens) and supports a student population of over 3,200 and a student-athlete population of approximately 530./ppThe Stags have a rich history of success on the field, having won 6 SCIAC Championships and have had four 8-win seasons (1970, 1986, 2023, 2024). In 2024, ten Stags were named All-SCIAC. In the classroom, the Stags have consistently excelled. In 2023-24, forty Stags were named to the SCIAC All-Academic Team./ppThis position is responsible for assisting the Head Football Coach in all facets of the program, including but not limited to: organizing and conducting team meetings, training, and practices, recruiting, team travel logistics, scholar-athlete development, and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. The assistant football coach develops and mentors approximately 20 student-athletes. This position is also involved in coaching special teams, including planning, scouting and player development. The assistant coach will be responsible for additional administrative responsibilities as assigned by the head coach./ppGiven our commitment to cultivating an inclusive educational environment, we seek candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students representing a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds, political opinions, genders, races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations and religions./ppThe successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the role of athletics in the liberal arts college curriculum and the integration of the student-athlete and coaching staff into the overall educational experience offered at The Colleges./ppReporting to the Head Football Coach, the assistant coach works both independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:/pulliAssist head coach with developing and implementing training and instruction for practices and competitions./liliResponsible for all aspects of the Strength and Conditioning program for the football program, including the creation and implementation of unit programs (wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, etc.) for pre-season, regular season and permissible out-of-season workouts. Direct and supervise assistant football coaches in the execution of the strength and conditioning program./liliAssist with the design of and independently facilitate pre- and post-game workouts, conditioning and training of the athletes./liliWork with the offensive or defensive coordinator to create and implement offensive game plans./liliAssist with the administrative aspects of the sports program. This may include but is not limited to: prompt completion of all administrative paperwork, team travel logistics, creation of practice plans, scholar-athlete and team development, and collaboration with CMS athletics staff in sports medicine, business operation, compliance, equipment, facilities and events./liliParticipate in alumni and community outreach programs including public speaking engagements, clinics, camps and alumni events. May attend fundraising events in a supporting role./liliRecruit and retain academically qualified student-athletes to the highly selective liberal arts institutions of Claremont McKenna College (CMC), Harvey Mudd College (HMC), and Scripps College./liliComply with all rules and guidelines set forth by the NCAA Division III, CMS Athletics and the SCIAC, reporting any violations or concerns to the CMS Compliance Department./liliRemain in good standing of all required training and certifications, including but not limited to concussion management, mental health resources and sexual violence prevention./liliRepresent CMS Athletic Department and the football program positively within the SCIAC, regionally and nationally./li/ulpRegular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment./ppEducation: A Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required./ppExperience: Previous collegiate participation and coaching are preferred. Experience in the recruitment of academically focused scholar-athletes is preferred./ppLicenses: Must be NSCA CSCS, or CSCCa SCCC Certified. Must maintain annual continuing education. First Aid/CPR/AED certification is required. A valid drivers license and the ability to be insured under the Colleges authorized drivers policy is required to drive College-owned vehicles./ppRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills and abilities./pulliDeploy professional skills, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the Colleges strategic interests./liliAn evident understanding of the role of athletics in the liberal arts college environment is required./liliExperience in recruiting student-athletes to highly selective institutions is preferred./liliStrong administrative and interpersonal skills required./liliAppropriate certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, or willingness to complete certifications upon hire if working independently with student-athletes./liliMust be proficient in basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and associated professional software (such as Internet research, and menu-driven databases). Must demonstrate understanding of the use of equipment in assessing and improving department systems and processes to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality./liliDemonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent/strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone and customer service skills. Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of duties./liliUse strong organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and keen attention to detail./li/ulpRequired Hours: The regular hours for this full-time position will vary, with the flexibility to set work hours appropriate to the needs of the program.
