Job Title: Compliance Officer

Reports to: President

FLSA Status: Exempt

General Purpose of the Position:

The Corporate Compliance Officer ensures all franchisees adhere to company policies, legal standards, and regulatory requirements. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance programs tailored to the franchise network. The officer conducts audits, investigates potential violations, and provides training to support consistent operational practices. The officer promotes transparency and accountability through compliance tracking and review. By proactively identifying risks and enforcing standards, this position safeguards the brand’s integrity and helps foster a culture of compliance, protecting both the franchisor and franchisees from legal or reputational harm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position will support the company’s initiative for gathering and disclosing franchise compliance, tracking of all documents and reporting as necessary
  • Ability to analyze and classify large amounts of data from multiple sources to ensure compliance goals are met
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, and experience with creating and performing informational presentations, including the ability to respond to questions in both small and large settings
  • Ability to collaborate with the president and legal team to plan and accomplish objectives, and assist with coordinating ongoing multiple, large, and complex projects from conception to completion
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and develops a plan of action to bring any non-compliant areas into compliance
  • Provides reports on all compliance efforts as needed; serves on committees as needed
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential compliance risks, developing strategies to prevent violations and minimize potential penalties or reputational damage
  • Educate employees about compliance requirements, policies, and procedures, ensuring everyone understands their responsibilities
  • Able to work with legal counsel
  • Understands Franchisee agreements, Development agreements, renewals and transfers
  • Can understand and reference Franchise Disclosure Document and help facilitate the renewal process of this document
  • Track all fees associated with the various franchise agreements
  • Capable of drafting and sending default letters
  • Follow through for all warning, default and compliance letters
  • Provides insights into compliance on how to ensure performance in the department is optimal
  • Ability to craft an overview dashboard to report on necessary topics
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to take direction and accomplish tasks with minimum supervision, maintain accuracy and meet deadlines

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Proficient in Smartsheet
  • Understanding or willingness to learn Ironclad or similar document management platforms

Education and Experience Required/Preferred:

  • A 4-year college degree from an accredited college, preferably with a degree in Business or related field is required.
  • A Minimum of 10 years of experience in a compliance-related role, preferably related to Restaurant, Hospitality or Retail industries Highly Recommended.
  • Must have proven Job history/Experience with organizational development, process improvement, and compliance management.
  • Highly adaptable, able to navigate ambiguity and make decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • May require travel for up to 25%
  • Work location: Corporate office/In-person: This role may have flexibility to become a Hybrid Work Arrangement after training period is complete.
