Job Description

Bear Claw Land Services is seeking an experienced Ground Sawyer / Forestry Technician to join our dedicated Forestry and Fire Mitigation Crew. This role is integral to our team's success in delivering high-quality forestry and wildfire mitigation services across Colorado's mountain communities.

Location: Projects primarily located in Grand, Summit, and Eagle Counties, Colorado, with occasional work in surrounding regions.

Travel:

  • Travel requirement ranges from 50%-75%, occasionally up to 100%, depending on specific project assignments.

  • Lodging and per diem provided, along with scheduled time off to ensure adequate rest periods.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate forestry equipment (e.g., Forestry Skid Steer, Masticator, Log Grapple, Track Hoe, Excavator, and Tracked Chipper) appropriate to project requirements.

  • Perform chainsaw operations including directional tree felling, limbing, and bucking.

  • Execute slash management operations: lop-and-scatter, chipping, hauling, and disposal.

  • Conduct road maintenance, excavation, lifting tasks, and general site cleanup.

  • Implement erosion control measures, including contour felling and installation of erosion barriers (LEBs).

  • Conduct daily inspections and routine maintenance on equipment, promptly reporting necessary repairs to supervisors.

  • Adhere strictly to Bear Claw Land Services' safety standards, promoting a proactive safety culture within the crew.

  • Participate in weekly job site safety and equipment training sessions.

  • Perform basic equipment repairs and maintenance tasks in-field.

  • Prepare for overnight stays at job sites, as needed.

  • Provide general forestry labor support as required by project demands.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-3 years' experience operating heavy forestry equipment; wildfire mitigation and forestry experience strongly preferred.

  • At least 18 years old.

  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

  • Reliable transportation to, from, and during project assignments.

  • Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.

  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in challenging outdoor conditions.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and ability to learn quickly.

  • Effective decision-making under pressure and during emergency situations.

  • Capability to meet project deadlines while ensuring safety and quality.

  • Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures.

  • Physical fitness: able to bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

  • Competency using smartphones/tablets for digital record-keeping and communication.

Language:

  • English proficiency required.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus.
