We are a well-established and dynamic art gallery with three physical locations, dedicated to showcasing contemporary art from emerging and established artists. Our River North, Chicago location is a vibrant hub for art collectors, enthusiasts, and industry professionals. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Art Gallery Director to lead our team, drive sales, and elevate our gallery’s presence in the art world.

Job Overview:

The Art Gallery Director will be responsible for the overall management and success of our River North location. This role requires a combination of strong business acumen, deep knowledge of the art market, and excellent leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in art sales, event planning, and team management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales & Client Relations: Drive sales through direct client engagement, networking, and building lasting relationships with collectors, designers, and corporate clients.
  • Exhibitions & Events: Plan, organize, and execute exhibitions, artist receptions, and private viewings to enhance visibility and sales.
  • Marketing & Outreach: Develop and implement marketing strategies in collaboration if our in house team and PR team to attract new clients, including social media, email campaigns, and partnerships with local businesses.
  • Artist Liaison: Work closely with gallery owners and represented artists to curate and present their work effectively, ensuring a strong relationship between the gallery and the artists.
  • Operations Management: Oversee daily gallery operations, including staff scheduling, inventory management, and financial reporting.
  • Team Leadership: Train, mentor, and lead a team of sales associates to achieve sales targets and provide excellent customer service.
  • Community Engagement: Establish and maintain relationships with local art institutions, media, and influencers to enhance the gallery’s reputation.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in gallery management, fine art sales, or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary and fine art markets, artists, and trends.
  • Exceptional sales skills with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in event planning and marketing strategies.
  • Proficiency in CRM software, POS systems, and social media platforms.
