Job Description

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Golf, the Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, and management of the Palo Duro Creek Golf Course's (PDCGC) grounds and facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work in the United States
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional degrees, certifications or coursework in turf management, agronomy, horticulture, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the maintenance of turf grass and golf course infrastructure.
  • Valid Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Active GCSAA membership preferred. Valid Texas Pesticide Applicator license
  • Valid TX Irrigation Tech certification preferred.

EDUCATION:
  • A degree or certification in turf maintenance, horticulture, agronomy, or a related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in golf course maintenance or groundskeeping is required, preferably with supervisory experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position will supervise the grounds maintenance crew.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Develop and implement turfgrass maintenance programs.
  • Monitor and manage irrigation systems and water usage.
  • Apply fertilizer, pesticides, and other treatments in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Oversee mowing, aeration, and other turf care practices.
  • Hire, train, and supervise groundskeeping staff.
  • Schedule and assign daily tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ensure staff receive safety training and adhere to current safety protocols.
  • Prepare and manage maintenance budget.
  • Procure equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and handling of chemicals and equipment.
  • Work closely with the Director of Golf to ensure Palo Duro Golf Course's ground maintenance needs are met.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Must be capable of lifting and handling weights of up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use their hands to feel, climb ladders, and balance. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Work hours will be 40 plus weekly and will be seasonally driven with some weekend hours, holiday hours, and call out hours required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

A majority of this work is performed in an outdoor environment. Exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and all other weather conditions is highly likely. Regularly working near moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles. Noise level is moderate to high.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel for the position is considered minimal. There may be occasional travel required for training and certification maintenance. Also, some travel may be required to obtain supplies and equipment. For the most part, the majority of travel is local.
