Location Requirements: Hybrid, work will be done remotely with some very occasional onsite meetings in their Arlington, Va. office. Rate: $70-$85, based on experience. Job Description: The CFO plays a pivotal role in overseeing the comprehensive accounting functions of this small non-profit. Over ten years of experience in a similar role is required, with proficiency in QuickBooks online and Microsoft 365. Extensive knowledge of grant accounting, NIH cost principles, and rate proposals is crucial. Responsibilities: Oversight of all general ledger activities and the reconciliation of drawdowns with financial management software. The CFO advises the President and Vice President on critical financial matters, actively participating in strategic discussions and board meetings to present financial reports and strategies. Close collaboration with external consultants for the accurate submission of personal property taxes, pension plans, business licenses, and workers' compensation insurance. Oversee the accountant/office manager who handles essential financial operations including monthly project status reports, accounts payable and receivable, check writing, payroll processing, and management of petty cash, property, and equipment. A specialized segment of the CFO’s responsibilities is dedicated to managing financial operations related to grants, particularly those from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This includes preparing for and managing annual NIH audits, negotiating and monitoring annual rates, and preparing comprehensive financial reports for grant projects. The CFO acts as a liaison for auditors, ensuring all documentation is accurate and queries are promptly addressed. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA a plus. Over ten years of experience in a similar role is required, with proficiency in QuickBooks online and Microsoft 365. Experience with Payment Management Services (PMS) is a plus.
