Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Support Services Program Manager, the Music Studio Manager will be responsible for providing ongoing engagement, music creation and lessons within the Urban Peak Music Studio. This commonly includes assisting youth in recording and making their own music, teaching music-related lessons to those wanting to learn instruments or production and assisting community partners in using the space. In addition, the Music Studio Manager will assist with the general up-keep of the music studio and communicate needs for programming in a manner that aligns with Urban Peak’s mission. This position will ensure that interactions, interventions, and environments at Urban Peak are trauma informed and will emphasize the physical and emotional safety of youth and staff. 

Who You Are:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three (3) years full-time experience working with high-risk youth, OR a Bachelor’s Degree in human services or a related field. OR Pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degree in audio engineering or other music-related degree paths.
  • Background in music education, production, performance, and/or instruction. 
  • Familiar with recording studio equipment and basic music software (such as Ableton, etc.). 
  • Lived experience reflective of the youth we serve encouraged but not required. 
  • The ability to connect well, work effectively and communicate in a culturally responsive manner with a diverse youth population. 
  • An understanding of trauma informed care and harm reduction principles, and an ability to implement these approaches in the music studio setting. 
  • Skill in operating office equipment, such as computers, software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Outlook; Teams) and telephones. 
  • Skill in mediating and de-escalating, particularly in sensitive situations.
  • Able to make sound decisions, using available information while maintaining appropriate confidentiality. 
  • Able to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team and work with collaborating agencies. 
  • Must be team-oriented and able to coordinate with various departments and staff. 
  • Must be insurable as a driver on Urban Peak’s auto liability policy to transport youth using an Urban Peak vehicle and an approved personal vehicle. 
  • Ability to pass both federal and state background checks, a physical and pre-employment TB screening. 
  • Attendance and punctuality are vital to this position. 

What You Will Do:

Music Studio Management 

  • Oversee operations of the music studio, including scheduling and meeting with youth, equipment setup, and ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. 
  • Coordinate and implement music studio usage policies for the youth that provide fair access and respect of the space by Urban Peak programming expectations. 
  • Facilitate open studio hours and structured workshops or groups in music production, songwriting, recording, instruments and/or performance, especially based on the desires of the youth who utilize the music studio. 
  • Assists youth with recording, performing, and creating their own music. 
  • Ensure equipment is functional, organized, and safely stored after use. 
  • Collaborate with Support Services team in organizing occasional showcases or listening sessions that promote youth creations in the music studio. 
  • Track attendance of youth in the music studio. 
  • Meet weekly or bi-weekly for supervision with direct program manager  

What We Offer:

  • Salary Range : $19.78
  • Shift Schedule : Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday 1pm to 6pm
  • This is a parttime position and not eligible for benefits

Founded in 1988, Urban Peak is the only non-profit organization in Denver that provides a full convergence of services for youth ages 12 through 24 experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Our goal is to meet youth where they are and to provide them with the assistance and support, they need to become self-sufficient or obtain the necessary services they need to exit a life on the streets.

Urban Peak provides numerous programs and services that are founded on the principles of trauma-informed care and Positive Youth Development to assist youth in reaching their potential and living a successful life off the streets. Services include street outreach, a 136-bed shelter for youth ages 12 through 24, daytime drop-in services, supportive housing, education and employment services, case management, life skills courses, behavioral health evaluations, meals and more. The youth served at the shelter come from a variety of backgrounds, and we strive to be a safe community for all youth, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, class, educational background, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability status.
