About the Role:

Responsibilities include identifying and developing packaging technologies and innovations for Global growth platforms from technology scouting to proof of principles. This will require partnership with Consumer Insights, Global Operations, functional partners, external suppliers and Open Innovation resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical and innovation pipeline programs through identification and development of technical solutions that involve novel material properties and utilization, manufacturing methods, package functionality and performance and technology reapplication from out of field.
  • Identify new enabling technologies for developing novel package formats and functionality that address consumer’s functional and emotional needs, getting noticed on shelf and expand usage occasions.
  • Lead design of experiment, conduct research and troubleshoot to develop enabling technologies.
  • Partner with CIS/Consumer Science groups to uncover consumer insights to build holistic package designs incorporating functional and experiential consumer benefits and at the lowest cost.
  • Develop close collaboration with global cross-function partners (Marketing, CIS, Consumer Science, Product Development, Procurement, Finance, Operations, Packaging R&D partners), manufacturing plants (internal & external) and external resources including suppliers, design firms and Open Innovation partners such as universities, research institutions and innovation consultancy firms.
  • Support the pipeline development and feasibility of complex packaging technologies while meeting cost targets.
  • Provide timely communication and contingency plans and be able to handle multiple projects.
  • Understand the financial impact of packaging technologies/innovations and the linkage of packaging to business strategies.

Qualifications:

Education, Qualifications and Training:

  • BS/MS/PhD in the area of packaging technology, material science, polymer science, chemical engineering or related fields
  • 3-6 years of experience
  • Sound knowledge of packaging fundamentals and converting processes
  • Sound knowledge of packaging materials, including flexible plastic, rigid plastics and paperboard
  • Training in upfront research and development

Required Skills:

Experience with flexible plastics, rigid plastics and paperboard packaging within the consumer products or food industry. Experience in technology scouting, conducting research and designing experiments to develop innovative packaging solutions. Knowledge and experience working with different Open Innovation partners to develop enabling technologies. Proven ability to interact with cross functional business partners to establish targets, plans and maintain timelines to ensure timely and quality execution. Demonstrated ability to accomplish objectives on assignments which have ambiguity associated with their procedures, solutions, approach, etc.
