CITY OF WARREN

PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

The City of Warren is accepting applications for a part-time Parking Enforcement Officer within the Police Department. This position is responsible for patrolling City streets and other parking facilities to enforce parking laws and regulations as well as issuing tickets for parking violations within the City of Warren.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This is a part-time position responsible for patrolling City streets and other parking facilities to enforce parking laws and regulations as well as issuing tickets for parking violations within the City of Warren.
This is a position under the direct supervision and general direction of the Police Chief.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Patrol streets on foot to identify vehicles parked illegally or outside of the allotted time restrictions in accordance with City laws, ordinances, codes and regulations related to parking.
2. Enforce and write tickets for expired meters using the electronic ticketing system.
3. Monitor parking meters and other parking devices and report all broken meters or equipment by the end of each shift.
4. Collect money from meters, automated parking machines and fine boxes on a daily/weekly basis or as needed.
5. Transport large amounts of cash or coins to the bank for deposit with or without assistance.
6. Enforce alternate parking regulations during designated months.
7. Refer any unusual situations, safety concerns or unresolved complaints to the Parking Operations Clerk.
8. Appear in court at hearings regarding contested parking tickets.
9. Operate a two-way radio and handheld device to record violations.
10. Other duties as assigned by the Police Chief and/or his designee.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Required to abide by and comply with established Departmental and City policies, procedures and standards.
2. Ability to maintain an acceptable level of attendance and perform the duties of the position in a safe and efficient manner.
3. Competence to interpret codes, regulations, laws and ordinances.
4. Ability to walk for long periods of time with little to no rest periods.
5. Ability to work tactfully, politely, responsively and effectively when dealing with others.
6. Ability to maintain a professional image and reflect a positive influence within the community.
7. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form.
8. Ability to remain calm and perform effectively during critical situations.
9. Use good judgment in evaluating and making decisions.
10. Ability to carry a handheld ticket writer and portable radio throughout the workday.
11. Work independently with minimal supervision.
12. Must be neat in appearance, cooperative, dependable, thorough and able to
comprehend and follow directions.

REQUIRED LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
* Must be 18 years of age or older.
* High School Diploma or G.E.D.
* Possesses a valid Driver's License.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions safely.
2. Lifting 10-50 pounds of weight occasionally and 10 pounds constantly.
3. Daily walking up to 7-8 miles a day regardless of weather.
4. Occasional standing, walking, sitting, use of hands, climbing of stairs, stooping or kneeling.
5. See and hear with sufficient acuity to successfully perform all aspects of the job.
6. Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation.
7. Use telephone, write and use a keyboard to communicate through oral and written means.
8. Exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
9. Enter and exit vehicles occasionally.
10. The noise level is generally moderate but may occasionally be loud.
