Job Description

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant to join our Safe and Sustainable Operations team in Washington, DC .

This role builds client relationships, develops opportunities, and technically contributes to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance assurance, permitting, management systems, and auditing projects in the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical, and Technology sectors and other industrial clients along the U.S. east coast and other national locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for expanding ERM's EHS compliance, management systems and auditing expertise and client base in the east coast market; identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and lead new business development with existing clients.
  • Direct strategic environmental permits/inspection and compliance assurance programs for a variety of industrial clients with complex technical/regulatory issues; work closely with clients to understand specific processes and develop a permitting and compliance strategy that maintains maximum operating flexibility; achieve client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource on EHS compliance assurance and permitting programs; review plans, permits, and inspection documentation prior to submittal to clients and/or agencies.
  • Capitalize on existing client relationships to expand ERMs profile and market share in the regional Health & Safety and Environmental compliance markets through a combination of technical delivery and business development.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level staff in the planning and execution of compliance projects, and in directing or conducting independent technical reviews of deliverable work products.
  • Support the general growth and development of ERMs global management systems, compliance, and auditing services; collaborate with other ERM global practitioners to execute compliance and auditing projects, including participating on teams of professionals from multiple offices around the global organization.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/MS in occupational safety, engineering (chemical, mechanical, environmental), environmental science, or related degree; or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years (12+ years preferred) of relevant experience in environmental/compliance consulting with at least 3 years of responsibilities in business development.
  • Well established reputation and recognized technical expertise in the marketplace.
  • Proven experience in business development for environmental, health, safety, or other regulatory compliance contracts, with the ability to contribute to ERMs annual sales goals.
  • Consulting experience working with occupational health and safety or related field.
  • Experience with managing large or complex programs.
  • Experience with people leadership is preferred.
  • Excellent communication (written/verbal), strategic thinking, negotiation, presentation, and people skills.
  • Established relationships with regulatory authorities and large, privatesector industrial companies (potential clients) in the eastern U.S.
  • Positive outlook, collaborative, and driven by the success of ERM as a global company.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Local candidates, or candidates in metropolitan areas along the east coast are preferred.

Compensation : The annual base pay for this position is $134,470 $159,499 (USD). Additional compensation may include bonus opportunities and other benefits consistent with company policies.
