Public Involvement Specialist – Communications & Outreach

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Public Involvement Specialist to lead and support community engagement efforts on major infrastructure, planning, and development projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute public outreach and engagement strategies for large-scale client projects, including those involving permitting, planning, and construction.
  • Coordinate and implement comprehensive communication plans and outreach programs.
  • Develop materials and logistics for events such as public meetings, open houses, stakeholder briefings, and community workshops.
  • Contribute to the creation and dissemination of various communication tools such as newsletters, fact sheets, surveys, web content, social media content, videos, and printed collateral.
  • Support established outreach objectives by attending government briefings, preparing and delivering presentations to external groups, and advising clients on public messaging and themes.
  • Assist in the development of websites and digital tools, and participate in event planning and stakeholder engagement.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned and ensure compliance with organizational standards and policies.
  • Local travel is required approximately 15–20% of the time for outreach and stakeholder engagement (no overnight travel).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field and at least 4 years of experience in strategic communications (must be clearly indicated on resume).
  • OR
  • Master’s degree in a related discipline and a minimum of 3 years of strategic communication experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience in communications related to construction or engineering projects.
  • Proven ability to manage media relationships, including the development and dissemination of press releases and managing messaging around events, announcements, and crises.
  • Strong proposal writing skills.
  • Background in content creation for digital platforms including websites and social media; knowledge of web design or coding is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines with a high level of accuracy and quality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
