Job Description

MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN - SECUREPATH

Cary, NC

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The Lucy Daniels Center is the largest 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency provider of mental health services for children in the Greater Research Triangle area of North Carolina. Founded in 1989, the Center specializes in integrated psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches and provides clinical treatment to more than 500 children yearly through a range of programs.

We welcome both early career and experienced clinicians. The Center values and encourages clinical learning and growth, as is shown in our provision of weekly clinical supervision/consultation, weekly group supervision, and opportunities to attend seminars/workshops through the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas as well as a variety of other trainings. We understand that many talented clinicians may have an interest in working with children using psychodynamic approaches but have had minimal training in that arena. We encourage those in this situation to express their interest to us because we have a long and favorable experience assisting clinicians to develop and deepen their clinical, analytic skills.

Lucy Daniels Center is a truly unique entity in this country. It is unusual to have a community of clinicians (clinical social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists) with great commonality of clinical perspectives working together in a close team approach. The Center also has a nationally recognized therapeutic elementary school; our clinicians provide psychotherapy in the school and work closely with the school team, providing another unique opportunity to understand a child in depth from multiple perspectives.

LDC’S SERVICES INCLUDE:

  • Therapeutic classroom settings for preschool through Grade 5 children at the Lucy Daniels School.
  • Farley-Manning Family Guidance Service, providing onsite and telehealth therapy for children and families.
  • SecurePath, a comprehensive in-home mental health service for children birth-5 years old. SecurePath is delivered in conjunction with Wake County SmartStart’s initiative to ensure that emotionally at-risk young children have early intervention services to better prepare them for success in school and life.
  • Lucy’s Link, providing observations and assessments for young children in the community.
  • Resources and Support, Lucy Daniels Center skilled staff provide parenting groups, social skills groups, observations and assessments, caregiver workshops and support groups, and teacher training across North Carolina in partnership with organizations like Telamon Corporation and the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas.

JOB TITLE: Mental Health Clinician

REPORTS TO: SecurePath Team Lead

DEPARTMENT: SecurePath

STATUS: Full-Time (40hr per week)

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

PAY: $50,000 per year

THE POSITION SUMMARY

This position is a true gem in the field. Providing a substantial annual training budget, 6 weeks of paid time off, supervision provided at no cost, and very reasonable caseload expectations, it is no wonder clinicians tend to stay on the Secure Path team for many years.

SecurePath is a bilingual (English, Spanish) early-intervention program for children from birth through five years old where services are provided either in their home or pre-school setting. Our SecurePath team consists of mental health clinicians and a case manager who provide early intervention mental health treatment for children experiencing emotional or behavioral issues. SP therapists work closely with both child and caregiver, typically in the context of the family’s home environment. Most of the families served in the SP program require case management support along with mental health services. SecurePath is funded by LDC’s partnership with Wake County Smart Start, which works to support Kindergarten readiness.

The eligibility for the SecurePath program is based on household income, insurance status, or other “greatest need” measures. This position is a hybrid blend of remote and in-person work and provides a broad range of services, including early childhood mental health consultation in classrooms and homes, individual child observations, referral services, and supporting and providing parent trainings. The clinician collects data, maintains records, and supports compliance in all facets of the SecurePath Program.

The successful candidate is highly organized, and able to take initiative, working autonomously and with the team. The successful candidate can operate in a fast-paced environment while remaining good-natured, resourceful, and efficient. Candidates must have a reliable vehicle, as driving to appointments/sessions can occur all across Wake County. A high level of maturity, integrity, professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, tact, confidentiality, and self-care are crucial.
