Role: The Senior Academic Advisor for Student Success in the Townsend Institute (TI) oversees areas of student interaction from enrollment to graduation. This position works closely with the TI Dean, Assistant Dean, and Program Directors to increase the quality of the student learning experience and matriculation through their degree programs.

Essential Duties and responsibilities Including the following: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below duties satisfactorily:

Student Enrollment & Orientation:

  • Collaborates with the Admissions department regarding new student enrollment projections and timelines.
  • Oversees the efficient and prompt enrollment of new students.
  • Manages the communication plan and flow to all new students, ensuring a streamlined process from acceptance to enrollment.
  • Manages the coordination of the orientation process for all new Townsend Institute students.
  • Completes the graduation plan of each student and ensures that it is up to date.

Academic Advising:

  • Leads the hiring process and training of TI academic advisors.
  • Train and supervises a team of academic advisors for all TI academic programs.
  • Manages the process that serves all new Townsend students and any returning students by guiding them through the registration process and graduation plans for each term.
  • Manages student issues and appeals alongside TI program directors and Assistant Dean
  • Coordinates all course planning and program schedules based on student graduation plans and course needs.
  • In collaboration with the Program Directors, maintain an accurate book list for all courses and liaise with the bookstore to provide these for student purchase
  • Oversees all institute functions related to ongoing student support.
  • Ensures that students meet the academic requirements for university admission, licensing, and accreditation, as outlined in the program handbooks and university standards.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Dean, assists as a liaison between Graduate Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Bursar, and Technology departments on behalf of students
  • Oversees advising to provide support to low GPA students and send out notices of probation and dismissal.
  • Oversees the sharing and analysis of retention data.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Dean, is knowledgeable about CACREP and ICF requirements and able to advise counseling and coaching students appropriately regarding licensing requirements in their home state.
  • Ensures that the academic progress of all students from initial enrollment to program completion is appropriately monitored by advising.
  • Uses software systems to monitor the academic status of each student.
  • Ensures students are notified of deadlines, registration procedures, course options, course evaluations, and class schedules throughout their program by preparing email communications.
  • Collaborates with Program Directors and leads to ensure the highest level of Student Retention.

Residency Planning:

  • Is a member of the Residency Planning committee (MA and PhD), and performs tasks related to all Residencies as given through the committees
  • Attends all events associated with the on-campus Residency.
  • Leads advisors in their roles during all Residency events.

Graduation

  • Assists in the planning and coordination, in collaboration with the TI Program Coordinator, of the TI graduation reception and ceremony.
  • Leads advisors in their roles during all graduation events

Student/Alumni Connection

  • Collaborates with the university's Alumni & Family Engagement office on student communications including, but not limited to, emails, social media, and CU Connect posts.

Student Outreach

  • Collaborates with the Director of Engagement to provide content for the Institute's social media channels and messaging.
  • In collaboration with the Institute's Social Media Manager and Institute programs - helps provide content to be disseminated on appropriate channels.
  • Assists in editing, production, and distribution of TI-related content obtained through students, faculty, staff, fellows, or friends of the Institute.
  • Assists in the management of the Townsend Coffee Club scholarship program.
  • Provides world-class customer service and availability to all prospective, and current students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assists, as needed, in the design and updating of program materials and communication to prospective and continuing students.

Additional Duties:

  • In consultation with the Assistant Dean of Curriculum and Assessment
    • Coordinates Program Master Calendar and adds to Townsend Google Calendar.
    • In coordination with the Assistant Dean and Program Directors, the Website is reviewed for accurate information on programs and faculty.
  • Service to the university:
    • Participates in CUI Faculty/Staff meetings.
    • Participates in one university committee.
    • Builds community across the campus.
  • Service to the field
    • Is an active member of a job-related professional community.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Master's degree (M.A.) required.
  • Three to five years of related experience and/or training; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Experience with academic advising at a university level
    • Experience with counseling services preferred
    • Preferred understanding and experience in using the Townsend model or willingness for training in the model

Full Time Staff

$27 - $29.50/hr
