JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is the primary contact for assigned client relationships and plays a key role in the month-end close process. Responsibilities include bank transaction downloads, journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and understanding the activity behind each transaction. Collaboration with various departments is essential, along with characteristics such as curiosity, independence, and self-motivation. Prior nonprofit accounting experience is preferred.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Manage all accounting transactions.
  2. Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
  3. Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  4. Prepare accurate financial statements and reports for clients promptly.
  5. Review peer financials.
  6. Present financials to internal staff.
  7. Ensure supporting documents are properly filed.
  8. Assist with annual budget preparation.
  9. Support auditors with reconciliations and reports.
  10. Maintain professional client relations and keep clients informed of progress and challenges.
  11. Comply with financial policies and regulations.
  12. Utilize MIP Fund Accounting, EWS, Microix, Excel, Word, Practice CS, and other software; training provided.
  13. Engage in continuing professional education.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field
  • At least three years of relevant accounting experience, including financial statement and budget prep, with proficiency in Excel

Preferred Qualifications

CPA/CMA, nonprofit accounting, audit experience, and MIP software familiarity are desirable.

Work Environment

Initially on-site during orientation with a hybrid model thereafter. Standard office equipment and business casual attire are used.

Physical Demands

Regular talking, hearing, standing, walking, typing, and reaching are required to perform essential functions.

Position Type/Hours

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with potential for extra hours during peak periods.

Travel

Primarily local travel; reliable transportation necessary.
