Station Manager - Drive Operational Excellence at John F Kennedy Airport

What will you do

As our Station Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and on-time airport operations in John F Kennedy airport. You will be responsible for supervising ground handling operations, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and driving performance to meet SAS' high standards. In this role, you'll be at the frontline of our operation, solving problems, optimizing processes, and delivering top-notch service to our passengers.

In this exciting and dynamic role, you will oversee airport operations for John F Kennedy, a strategically important airport for SAS and our Skyteam partners. You will tackle the challenge of ensuring punctuality and safety for over 6.000 annual departures. As the main point of contact at the airport, you will work closely with ground handling partners, subcontractors, airport authorities, and regulatory bodies to optimize daily operations and solve issues efficiently. Your ability to collaborate and lead by example will be key to maintaining high standards.

Together, we are responsible for more than 6.000 departures per annum. This is your opportunity to have an individual impact on helping thousands of passengers reach their destinations safely and on time.

You will be working in a small and very efficient team who are responsible for the daily operation at JFK and EWR, but the team also supports all other stations in North America, when there is a need. Therefore, travelling and assistance to other SAS sites is also part of the scope for this role. In this role you will report to the Head of Regional Line Stations with a dotted line into the Regional Station Manger North Americas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure compliance with SAS, CBP, FAA, TSA and local authority security procedures
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with local authorities, handling agents, other airlines and other SAS units
  • Ensure that SAS standards for Airside Safety are maintained
  • Supervise and follow-up performance of the handling agents and other suppliers so performance meets requirements and established standards
  • Follow-up on service level and in cooperation with suppliers continuously improve the service delivery
  • Report deviations, and initiate corrective actions as required
  • Perform other delegated tasks
  • Execute efficient control of all handling activities

To be successful, we believe you have

  • Min. 5 years of experience in Airport Operations
  • Management experience
  • Proven knowledge of SMS and quality systems
  • Broad knowledge of the applicable requirements, regulations, laws and agreements
  • Detailed knowledge of IATA SGHA and SLA's
  • Microsoft Office Package skills
  • Knowledge of Altea DCS
  • Key knowledge of financial follow-up and budget
  • Good knowledge of English, spoken and written
  • US citizen or authorized green card holder

It is also advantageous if you have previous experience in a leadership or managerial role.
