Summary The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board's Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board's internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes.
Position Requirements Principal Duties and Responsibilities The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System's (Board's) Office of Inspector General conducts audits and evaluations of the Board and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's (CFPB's) programs and operations to assess and promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in these programs and operations while helping to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse. The Audit Intern will assist in conducting audits and evaluations of Board and CFPB programs and operations.
- Assists as a team member on audits, evaluations, or other reviews.
- May support the team in conducting its planning activities for the applicable review to establish the appropriate objectives, scope, and methodology.
- May assist in gathering data, conducting analysis, and preparing workpapers.
- May assist in developing the findings and message for the applicable review.
- Potential to participate in presentations to OIG senior management.
- May participate in meetings with Board division representatives, Reserve Bank officials, or CFPB officials.
Remarks There are three audit intern positions available in the following sections:
- Supervision & Regulation (S&R), which conducts reviews of the Board's and CFPB's financial institution oversight programs.
- Management & Operations (M&O) , which oversees the operational components of the Board and the CFPB, including divisions that are responsible for human capital; personnel security; records management; data governance; economic research (Board), and Board member support (Board).
- Financial Management/Internal Controls (FMIC), which conducts performance audits and evaluations in areas such as procurement, facilities, payment systems, consumer affairs, and Reserve Bank oversight.

Suggested Major(s)/Minor(s): Accounting, economics, finance, public administration, or information technology, either graduate or undergraduate.

Location : The internship location is in Washington, DC, primarily onsite.
US Citizenship is required. All applicants must be current students, graduating from their program August 2026 or later. Proof of enrollment will be required.
