Position :

• Billing Specialist / Project Accountant / AP Support

Location:

• Bakersfield (Preferred), Fresno, or San Luis Obispo, CA (Remote within California available)

MKN is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Billing Specialist / Project Accountant to join our growing accounting team. This role will oversee the full-billing lifecycle for engineering projects in the water and wastewater sectors, as well as provide analysis and reporting specific to ongoing projects. The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and experienced in working with project teams and financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, and review accurate monthly invoices in collaboration with project managers
• Maintain and update project billing terms, budgets, and coding within accounting software
• Generate and analyze billing, project, and financial reports for internal stakeholders
• Respond to and resolve internal and external invoice inquiries professionally and promptly
• Monitor and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable, supporting collection efforts
• Collaborate with a three-person accounting team and report to the Financial Controller
• Review and audit sub consultant invoices
• Mentor and support less experienced team members by sharing knowledge and best practices
• Assist in refining billing workflows and documenting standard operating procedures
• Leverage Deltek Vantagepoint or similar platforms for project accounting and reporting

Required:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in billing/invoicing and accounts receivable
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Excellent communication and multi-tasking abilities
• Ability to follow existing processes and examples with accuracy and consistency
• Proficiency with general billing or accounting software

Preferred:

• Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or other Deltek platforms
• Background in the AEC industry (architecture, engineering, construction)
• Familiarity with project accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting
• Experience with platforms similar to Deltek Vantagepoint (Unanet, BST, other)

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation is based on experience and qualifications $30$40/hour ($62,500$83,200 annually, depending on experience). The firm offers a highly competitive salary and fringe benefits, and most importantly, an opportunity for engagement and support from an engineering team that has led major regional water resource projects throughout the western U.S.
