About Us:

Martinus is a market leading, full-service railway infrastructure company that builds and maintains large scale railroads and intermodals within North America. We have the internal resources necessary to construct full turnkey railway projects for the Class 1, Short Line and Industrial markets.

The Role:

Martinus is seeking an experienced Cost Controller to play an integral role with managing and reporting on financials across several rail infrastructure projects we're delivering in the country. You'll work closely key project personnel to track and forecast cash flow across all contractors, suppliers, and will be responsible for preparing clear and accurate monthly financial reports

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to;

  • Develop and maintain project budgets in coordination with project managers and finance teams. Monitor budget variances and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Work closely with project managers to evaluate change requests and update budgets accordingly.
  • Track and analyze project costs, including expenditures, budgets, and forecasts, to ensure alignment with project objectives and financial targets.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial forecasts, highlighting potential risks and opportunities.
  • Review contracts and agreements to ensure adherence to financial terms and conditions.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with project teams.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to project cost management.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance cost control processes and tools.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders, including project managers, finance teams, contractors, and clients, to provide regular updates on project financial performance and address any cost-related queries or concerns.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) preferred.
  • Proven experience in cost control or financial management, preferably within the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sector.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting software, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant financial software applications.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting techniques, and cost management practices.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and draw meaningful insights to support decision-making.
  • Prior experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects is desirable.
