Employment Type:  Part-Time, Not eligible for benefits

Months Worked Per School Year: 10

Expected Work Days/Hours:  M-F / 2:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m.

Paideia is a K-12 college preparatory school in the Emory University area of Atlanta. The Elementary Aftercare program provides a unique and interesting afternoon for our children at the end of the school day. In this comforting setting, children spend time playing with friends, doing special projects, and completing homework. Our aim is to create a “home-away-from-home” atmosphere.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Some of the responsibilities of the Elementary Aftercare Playground Teacher include:

Fostering a rich and comfortable social environment for children ages 5-12 through play by:

  • Ensuring the safety and supervision of students at all times
  • Facilitating and participating in outdoor games and activities
  • Providing a safe learning and playing environment
  • Building relationships with children and parents 
  • Responding to student needs

We are looking for an energetic individual with experience interacting with children on the playground.

Required Skills and Abilities: 

Our staff should have the ability to encourage social, physical, and intellectual growth of our students. Staff should be friendly and approachable and maintain positive and healthy interactions with elementary aged children. Staff must have excellent communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience working as an after-school teacher, teaching assistant, social worker or a similar role.
  • Ability to foster a fun and safe environment conducive to positive social and emotional learning.
  • Ability to work with elementary school aged children and remain friendly, calm, and patient at all times.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to set rules and guidelines for children to follow.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to maintain a tidy and neat aftercare space.

Working Conditions:

  • Indoors and outdoors

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to play sports and engage students in a variety of activities depending on their interests.
