Job Description

FWCD is seeking an enthusiastic professional who preferably has experience in a middle school educational setting. Reporting to the Director of Fine Arts and to the Head of Middle School, the Middle School Theatre Director will have experience teaching middle school theatre/musical theatre to middle school students.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach MS Theatre classes and direct at least one outside of class time musical.
  • Can musical direct or choreograph an outside of class production.
  • Help the Theatre Team to manage the props and costume spaces.
  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills
  • Be a team player who works well with others in the division and work collaboratively with the other members of the performing arts department.
  • The ability to work with the Director of Fine Arts to develop a solid theatre and musical theatre program for all our middle school students.
  • Help choose shows for our middle schoolers to perform.
  • Demonstrate commitment to students’ success by offering extra help hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Be experienced in musical theatre, vocal instruction and have some piano ability.
  • Be able to lead a full musical as a director incorporating either musical direction or choreography.
  • Have either solid vocal or dance training along with theatre knowledge.
  • Have an obvious passion for theatre and musical theatre and be able to share that with middle school students.
  • Have excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Represent the school in a favorable manner
  • Be energized by working with middle school-aged students
  • Be knowledgeable of appropriate material for middle schoolers to work on.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with middle school or upper school students in the field of theatre and musical theatre.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferably in musical theatre or theatre with substantial musical theatre knowledge.
  • Would prefer some professional experience in the theatre or musical theatre field.
