Position: Special Education Teacher - grades 4-8

Qualifications: Certification as a Special education teacher (282)

: RSU 12 is seeking a special education teacher in our Palermo Consolidated School, a K-8 school serving approximately 120 students.   Palermo is a wonderful place to work because we collaboratively focus on providing a positive, strength-based approach to student learning. The Special Education teacher is responsible for overseeing the delivery of services in students’ Individualized Education Plan and providing specialized instruction to ensure that each student progresses in meeting IEP goals. The ability to relate positively to students, parents, and staff is essential to this position. 

Major Responsibilities:

• Provide evidenced-based specially designed instruction to student with IEP’s to ensure that each student progresses in meeting their learning targets.
• Serve as case manager and oversee each student’s IEP, ensuring compliance with requirements in the Maine Unified Special Education Regulations – Chapter 101 including timelines related to the IEP process and IEP development
• Consult with regular education teachers on a regular basis regarding educational needs, accommodations and modifications.
• Collaborate with related service providers (speech therapists, OT, PT, social workers, etc.)
• Administer achievement assessments for initial referrals and re-evaluations
